My daughter’s wardrobe was a hodgepodge of styles, colors, and patterns that rarely matched. Random hand-me-downs and clearance-rack deals only made this problem worse. She and I both longed for a simpler, easier wardrobe. Then I found a wardrobe guide for girls with the style she longed for and the plan I needed to make it happen.

What Is a Capsule Wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe uses fewer items of clothing to create many outfits. This works by being intentional with the color palette, types of pieces, and ratios of patterns and solids. But how do you know which clothing pieces make the right balance? In my case I didn’t know, so I bought a capsule wardrobe guide for girls from Frump Fighters. Thankfully, it’s working!
Check Out the Capsule Wardrobe Guide for Free
Before I purchased The Complete Wardrobe Guide for Girls – Capsule Plan & Outfits, I tried out the free version first. I found that the free version offered enough information to get me started. However, I chose to purchase the complete guide to have all of the information, photos of outfits, and “Get Dressed!” Cheat Sheets for Kids.
Using the Capsule Wardrobe Guide
The capsule wardrobe guide for girls has sixty suggested clothing items and accessories. That’s too much to attempt to add or replace all at once. Instead, use the guide to update your daughter’s wardrobe over time.
(1) Shop your daughter’s closet.
Once you’ve chosen a color palette, go through your daughter’s closet with her. First, remove any items that no longer fit, are worn out, or are no longer wanted. Then, match existing pieces to the guide.
It is likely that you already have many pieces of the capsule wardrobe. Mark these off the list.
If you have several repeats of the same capsule item, you may want to reduce that number. Before donating or selling extras, consider these two reasons for keeping some of them. First, these may make great hand-me-downs for younger siblings. Second, these can be used as replacements for worn out capsule pieces like jeans or leggings with holes in the knees. Store any extras that you wish to keep in a separate location.
(2) Keep favorite clothing items that aren’t part of the capsule.
This is your first pass through your daughter’s wardrobe, and she probably has some well-loved, often-worn clothing items. You don’t have to discard these just because they aren’t part of the capsule wardrobe. Instead, keep them until she outgrows them or no longer favors them. Of course, you can still limit these as needed to keep her wardrobe at a reasonable size.
(3) Prioritize items to add to the capsule wardrobe.
Flip through the outfits portion of the guide. Are there outfits that you and your daughter like but can’t yet create? Take note of which pieces would increase her outfit options the most. Prioritize these items on your next shopping trip.
If there are clothes or accessories that your daughter doesn’t like, ignore them. There is no need to buy a vest, scarf, or other item that she won’t enjoy wearing.
(4) Add clothing pieces when your budget and time allow.
You don’t have to rush out to buy new capsule wardrobe pieces right away. When we first began this process, shopping my daughter’s closet was sufficient. We didn’t have all of the essential clothing items in the guide, but she had enough to make many cute outfits. It helped that we didn’t get rid of everything that wasn’t in the capsule.
A year later she outgrew many of her clothes, so we repeated steps one through three. This time, we needed to add several capsule pieces to her wardrobe. Fortunately, we found a handful of capsule items at discount retailers on our first shopping trip.
When we repeated this process a third time the next fall, it was easy to add only the items we needed. Because her clothes work together well, she has seemingly endless outfits that are stylish.
Why I Recommend the Capsule Wardrobe Guide for Girls
My Daughter Loves It
My daughter has reached the age when she cares that her outfits match and are trendy. The wardrobe guide for girls helped me bridge the gap between my lack of fashion sense and my daughter’s desire to be stylish. She loves how easy it is to choose outfits now that everything coordinates.
One Guide – Many Ages
The capsule wardrobe guide for girls works for a wide range of ages. While it is geared for girls from ages four to ten, it is easily tailored to babies or teens/tweens. To adjust the guide for babies, just stick to the essential items, buy fewer shoes, and replace some or all of the shirts with onesies. The numerous suggested changes for teens and tweens include swapping a vest for a kimono, choosing leather for ankle boots, and using a more muted color palette.
Color Palettes
For simplicity, the guide uses just one color palette. However, it includes a link to additional suggested color palettes as well as a free course on customizing capsule plans. Thus, you can choose the color palette in the guide, one of the additional color palettes, or even make your own.
Choosing a color palette helps ensure that clothes match each other. Additionally, it saves you money because you will pass up many purchases that don’t match the palette. Using the capsule wardrobe guide saves our family money because our clothing purchases are more intentional.
Outfit Combinations for Every Season
The sixty pieces in the guide mix and match to create over two hundred outfits across all four seasons. Corina Holden, the author of the guide, did a great job demonstrating how all the pieces work together. This versatility is exactly what my daughter’s wardrobe needed. Fewer clothing pieces truly can result in more options.
Pictures of Every Outfit Combination
The capsule wardrobe guide for girls includes pictures of every single outfit combination. Since fashion is not my strong suit, this part of the guide is invaluable for me. My daughter loves to flip through these pages to see which outfits she can make. When she uses one of the outfit combinations, she often receives complements.
Great Customer Service
As I was writing this, I discovered that my version of the outfit guide for girls was out-of-date as some links had changed. I contacted customer service and quickly received a response with a link to the updated file. Prompt and helpful Interactions like these give me confidence when recommending a brand to others.
A Caveat about the Capsule Wardrobe Guide for Girls
Part of the appeal of the guide is the list of Amazon links to curated wardrobe pieces. Unfortunately, some of the clothing items pictured in the guide are no longer available on Amazon. The author of the guide has attempted to overcome this issue by including links to alternate pieces.
My daughter fell in love with the gray cardigan in the guide and requested it for Christmas in 2021. Thankfully, this item was still available at the time, and she loves it. That was her “something to wear” gift, an approach that we tried for the first time when simplifying Christmas even further that year.
Other Wardrobe Guides I’ve Purchased
While this review focuses on the wardrobe guide for girls, I’ve also purchased the Frump Fighters outfit guide for boys, the men’s style guide, and the women’s essentials style guide.
Conclusion
The Complete Wardrobe Guide for Girls – Capsule Plan & Outfits has greatly simplified my daughter’s wardrobe while also making it much more versatile. I used to feel in over my head trying to help her with style. Now, she and I are learning together and enjoying that bonding time. This guide has given us both more confidence in the realm of girls’ fashion.
